KSIR Hits the Nation's Capital Next Week

By: Lorrie Boyer, KSIR Farm News Director

I will be heading to Washington D.C. next week for a very busy and productive few days. First, as President-Elect of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting, I will be involved in our spring board meeting and taking part in a dinner with graduates of our NAFB 2018 leadership academy.

Following that, I will be attending scheduled press conferences and briefings with several policy influencers, in what we call NAFB Washington Watch. One of the highlights of the visit, is a trip to the USDA Building, where attending farm broadcasters have the rare opportunity to ask USDA Secretary, Sonny Purdue direct and individual questions. Also invited to this event is Environmental Agency Administrator, Scott Pruitt, Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Program, Greg Ibach , Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, Ted McKinney and Under Secretary for the Farm and Foreign Agriculture Service, Bill Northey.

Congress, Architecture, Building, Sky

We also will be heading to Capitol Hill, where we will be hearing from a range of lawmakers representing major ag areas on the U.S., who will inform us on what they are working on, what is happening in ag policy and taking questions.

Additionally, major affiliated ag groups will be participating in a trade show style session, where I will be able to get interviews and information starting from those who are pushing for ag policy and testifying in Congress on it.

NAFB Washington Watch is a unique event that offers phenomenal opportunities for newsmaker interviews and allows us as broadcasters to bring the information and news home to our community of listeners.  This year, not only do I represent Colorado, but also the National Farm Broadcasting industry. I take this role seriously and am looking forward to savoring the opportunity that I have during this stage of my career. Thank you to my fellow company broadcasters who are covering for me while I am gone and to KSIR Owner and General Manager, Alec Creighton for supporting NAFB and believing in what the KSIR Ad Department does in serving our rural and ag audience.

Stay tuned next week and the following week for news and information straight from the "Horse's" (I mean lawmakers) mouth.
